I Tried to Find You

I tried to find you, baby,
to hold you just one time
to sing one quiet song over you
to say one nursery rhyme.

I tried to find your broken body,
I couldn’t see it anywhere.
You hadn’t grown your fingers yet,
your toes, your eyes, your hair.

I tried to find you, Darling Child,
but it was just too hard to see
through so much blood and tissue
through the tears and agony.

I reached and touched and held it all
I didn’t want to miss
my one chance to hold you close
and give you a gentle kiss.

I tried to find you, Precious One
to tell you I love you.
But you are not here, you’re risen
with Christ, with family, too.

I tried to find you, my sweet Peace
and though you were not there
the Prince of Peace found me instead
my pain and grief to bear.

I cannot find you, baby girl
but I do know where you are.
You’re gazing at the Savior
the Bright and Morning Star.

He’s singing loudly over you
in tender tones of love.
He’s holding you in your new body
in glory up above.

He sings loudly over me as well
just as He sings over you.
I’ll try to sing with Him precious girl,
and maybe you’ll hear me, too.
