I think when my story is all told
the one who was in control
will be clear to see.
It was never me.
In eternity
I’ll clearly see
He was holding me,
He is holding me.
But we’re told in this life to be steadfast for a reason.
Because in this season
we’re living on our knees and
we see dimly, not clearly.
With our eyes we see the truth sometimes but only nearly.
We walk by faith because our sight
is blighted,
we’re in the middle of the night and
the light at the end of the tunnel seems to barely be ignited.
The eyes of faith can see clearly,
but what we see clearly
is the glass that we only see through dimly.
No wonder we’re told to remain steadfast.
It’s only by tying ourselves to the mast
that we can have a hope to get past
all the sirens that want to see us crashed
and smashed, and downcast.
My soul won’t be downcast, not forever.
You see I have this treasure:
A ray of knowledge unlike any other,
closer than a brother
the Spirit is IN me
giving me light in the night
so I don’t need sight,
neither dim nor bright.
No I don’t need to see to the left or the right
because even in the fight of my life
He is here.
Always here.
Forever near.
Casting out my fear with his perfect love.
If…
If I will abide in it.
If I will be still in it.
If I will be quieted by it.
I will obey, as best I can every day,
even if I don’t know which way we are going.
I don’t understand the plan but He’s giving me a knowing.
That I don’t have to know why.
I don’t have to see how.
I believe I will know HIM when I see HIM in the land of the living
because here in the land of the dying he was always with me.
He is always with me.
Maybe the light is so dim
Because all I need to see is Him.
And because of His proximity
I don’t need much light to see.
